WHAT IS CARBON BLACK?
Industrial carbon black is a form of carbon that exists as fine particles with an amorphous molecular structure. The majority of industrial carbon black produced worldwide is granulated and manufactured using the furnace method. The furnace method for producing industrial carbon black has significant advantages compared to other production methods, as it allows the production of carbon black for various applications.
Choosing a specific type of industrial carbon black has a significant effect on the quality of the rubber compound produced and is one of the most important factors in achieving the desired properties in the final product, such as:
- **Tensile Strength**
- **Modulus**
- **Hardness**
- **Elongation**
- **Abrasion resistance**
- **Tear resistance**
- **Elasticity**
The properties of different grades of industrial carbon black, which determine the quality of the final product, are measured through various tests in accordance with ASTM standards.
The Usage of Carbon Black:
Industrial carbon black, due to its chemical composition, coloring properties, particle size, and various characteristics, is widely used in different industries, especially the rubber industry. It typically constitutes about 25% to 30% of the rubber's weight. Carbon black is most commonly used after the rubber industry in tire manufacturing, conveyor belts, rubber hoses, seals, and belts. It is also used in industries like printing ink, paints, coatings, and even in batteries.
Carbon black in plastics and related products is mainly used for coloring, heat protection, shielding against ultraviolet radiation, and increasing the strength of certain materials.
